The opportunity
Bali Hospitality Stars is recruiting a General Manager for a small, operating boutique luxury villa resort in South Bali. The resort has an established market presence. Its trading name will be shared with selected candidates later because this is a discreet leadership search.
This is a commercially responsible, hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys running a focused property through a lean management structure. The General Manager stays close to guest experience, financial results, property condition and management performance. Hands-on means diagnosing problems, deciding what should happen, checking completion and following through. It does not mean routinely replacing frontline staff or the Assistant General Manager.
This is not a large, department-heavy hotel, conference operation or multi-property role. The successful candidate will have direct access to ownership, broad accountability and room to make a visible impact. Leaders from larger hotels remain welcome when they can show how their experience transfers to a focused property, and when this scope and compensation genuinely suit them.
Priorities
Top ratings on the resort's relevant review platforms.
Delivered through a capable Assistant General Manager and a lean, accountable operating team.
Clear expectations and prompt action when standards are not met.
Stronger revenue performance and disciplined cost control, without weakening service or the property.
Run under the General Manager and Assistant General Manager, supported by concise owner reporting and early escalation of material risks and decisions.
What you will own
Overall resort performance and the management system that produces it.
Practical diagnosis, decisions and follow-through when a serious guest, people, commercial or property issue requires senior intervention.
Commercial strategy, pricing, occupancy, revenue management, direct bookings and online travel agency performance.
Budgets, forecasts, cost control, operating profit and practical business improvement.
Guest-experience standards, review performance and the permanent resolution of recurring or material failures.
Leadership, coaching and performance management of the Assistant General Manager and other management-level team members.
Workforce planning, recruitment, hiring, salaries, performance management, employee relations and HR compliance within approved budgets and authority.
Major vendor, contract, compliance and property-risk decisions, with ownership approval where required.
Capital projects and major renovations, including planning, budgeting, vendor and professional coordination, scope, cost, schedule, quality and disruption control.
Clear weekly and monthly reporting to ownership, including results, risks, recommendations and decisions required.
Leadership structure
The Assistant General Manager directly manages daily operations and operational staff, including front office, housekeeping, maintenance coordination, security, scheduling, routine vendors and routine guest-service execution.
The General Manager remains accountable for the result. The General Manager sets direction, leads and holds the Assistant General Manager accountable, removes obstacles, checks whether operating standards are producing the required results and intervenes personally in serious guest, people, commercial or property problems.
This is an active, hands-on leadership role, but it is not routine reception cover or a departmental-supervisor position.
Candidate profile
Evidence and results matter more than property size, brand prestige or the number of departments managed.
You have led a hotel, resort, villa property or a genuinely broad operation and can show how your experience fits a small, focused luxury property.
Boutique, villa or lean independent experience is especially relevant. Larger-hotel experience is also valuable when it shows personal ownership, practical follow-through and comfort without several management layers.
Bali hospitality experience and local operating knowledge are advantages, not automatic requirements. Exceptional leaders from comparable properties outside Bali are encouraged to apply.
You have led managers across several parts of a hotel or resort and can connect guest, people, financial, commercial and property decisions.
You can show specific examples of improving or consistently maintaining excellent guest experience, strengthening a team or improving commercial performance.
You are visible and close enough to understand what is happening, test management explanations and intervene when a serious issue requires senior leadership.
Your written and spoken English is suitable for international guests, owners, reports and commercial partners. It will be assessed consistently during selection rather than assumed from your CV.
You have substantial luxury or upscale hospitality experience. Strong experience at an established independent property can be as relevant as experience with a recognized brand.
Cloudbeds experience is useful but not required. You should be able to demonstrate that you can learn the operating system quickly.
You have a stable, progressive career and can explain the reasons for shorter appointments.
Hospitality education is useful, but strong evidence of operating results, judgment and transferability matters more than a particular degree.
Transferable leadership
Current General Managers, Resort Managers and strong Assistant General Managers with broad property-wide responsibility are encouraged to apply.
Exceptional Operations Managers and comparable senior leaders may also be considered when they can demonstrate readiness to lead the whole property.
Compensation
Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, plus applicable THR and BPJS.
Compensation above this range requires specific owner approval.
Selection process
Initial review
Applications are initially reviewed through an automated recruitment system.
Concise screening
Candidates complete an evidence-based screening and a short fictional management exercise.
Owner interviews
The hiring owners make interview and employment decisions.
The exercise will not ask for unpaid work for the resort or confidential information from any current or former employer. Current employers will not be contacted without the candidate's agreement.
